Desert Expedition Workshops
While staying in San Carlos, you will have the opportunity
to work with a professional artisan from the area. The
different workshops offered are:
1. Andean music with Daniel D'Amico, a luthier and muscian.
He will introduce traditional instruments of the north such
as the charango, the quena, or the cicus, and then
participants will compose and recite regional music!
2. Functional ceramic making from local clay. Those
interested in making bowls, cups, and other useful items out
of clay will enjoy working with the incredibly talented
Eduardo Mendoza.
3. Wool dyeing and weaving using natural dyes and
incorporating items found around you is a skill you can
practice just about anywhere. Olga will give you a great
beginners course.
4. Basket weaving is more difficult than it looks, but with
the help of Raquel, participants will leave with beautiful
pieces made from local plant fibers.
5. Andes means 'copper'. Exploring the incredible
versatility of this metal with José is an unforgettable
experience.
Due to limited space and materials, workshops are limited to
7 participants each. It is likely that some will not receive
their first choices, so please indicate first and second
choices from the International Expeditions page (Desert,
Cloud Forest, Expedition training, or 16 Day Combo).
