Expeditions
The following expeditions are open to teenagers ages 14-18.
All courses follow and teach minimum impact ethics.
Desert courses are based in a small Andean town in the
western rain shadow of Salta Province. These courses focus
on cultural adaptations to the land. Activities include
cultural exchange, artisan workshops (pottery, weaving,
Andean music, basketry, and copper), backpacking, natural
history, and campcraft.
Dates: June and July, 2001
Duration: Generally 6 days
Cloud Forest based courses are run expedition style in the
eastern mountain ranges of Salta Province. During these
courses participants explore a unique ecosystem that
supports a wide variety of plant and animal life.
Activities include backpacking and campcraft, naturalist
training, group dynamics games, interpretive hikes,
mountaineering, and cross country navigation. This
expedition can be combined with the desert course.
Dates: June and July 2001
Duration: Generally 6 days
Expedition training courses take place in the hills of
Córdoba. They are run expedition style and teach young
adults how to travel safely through natural areas.
Activities include expedition preparation and planning in
the following areas: selecting gear, First Aid, cooking and
sanitation, map and compass use, leadership and followership
skills, naturalist skills, rock climbing and rappelling.
Dates: February and March 2002
Duration: 6 days
16 Day Combo includes all three sites and all the above
activities. It is an amazing opportunity to visit central
and northern Argentina, explore different ecosystems and
cultures, as well as learn camping skills that will last a
lifetime. For oversea visitors, there is an option of an
extra 3 day excursion in cosmopolitan Buenos Aires.
