Community Service Program
Community Service is one of the pillars of Environmental
Education and a bridge between learning and action. La
Lucena E.L.C. includes service activities in all of its
programs, involving participants in its commitment to the
community.
La Lechuza Public Library was opened in 2000 for the local
community. Dozens of families have free access to quality
books in Spanish donated by visiting schools and friends. It
is supported in part by sales from our artisan shop and run
by local youth. Book donations are always welcome. Please
contact Nicole Washburn at:
Nicole@lalucena.org for more information.
The Artisan Shop is a way of generating income for many
unemployed members of our community. It is also a way of
fundraising for students who can't afford to pay the School
Program fees. Students are encouraged to buy locally in
order to contribute to the local economy. We get quality
hand made goods direct from the artist, so prices are fair
for everyone. For more information, contact Pablo
Monguillot at:
Pablo@lalucena.org
The Beautification Project includes reforestation and
cleanup of nearby tourist sites. All students visiting La
Lucena leave their mark through activities that improve the
area they have come to know and respect.
