Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Are we going to have to study?
A:
NO. Studying and learning are not the same thing. Learning happens to be one of the most beautiful aspects of our lives. At La Lucena, learning and playing are one. When learning and playing happen together, studying isn't necessary.

Q: What are we going to eat?
A:
You'll be eating good homemade food that you will recognize! Very much like at home. After ten years, we can say that our cook's name, Doña Arminda, has travelled around the world!

Q: Are there poisonous snakes?
A:
Unfortunately, very few. People's fear of wildlife has taken its toll on snakes. There hasn't been a snake-bite incident in Córdoba for the last 43 years. Believe me, it's safer out here than crossing a street in the city. Nevertheless, we're always extremely careful.

Q: Where will we sleep? Are there bathrooms?
A:
You'll be sleeping in a boys or girls dorm, on mattresses and in your sleeping bags. There are great bathrooms with proper toilets and hot water!

Q: Can I bring my music center/walkman/discman/gameboy/cellphone?
A:
We ask you to leave all your 'toys' at home. Believe me, you'll have plenty of new 'toys' here to play with. The whole purpose is that you're willing to try out new things. We call it 'explore'.

Q: So, what do I have to bring to la Lucena?
A:
Simply follow the list of items on the equipment list. You'll find it under "FORMS" in this section.

Q: Do I need to buy new gear for this trip?
A:
NO! Not necessary at all. Stuff that you don't have, borrow from a friend!

Q: My Dad has a sleeping bag he used back in the 50's. Will it do?
A:
Probably not. I wouldn't trust it! Check the following things in your sleeping bag: Zips in good shape. Zips open at both ends, in order to ventilate feet without having to open up the whole bag. Nice thick, fluffy loft (thickness). Sleeping bag must be taller than you! Try it out at home! Do an overnight on your living room carpet! When in doubt, bring an extra blanket.

Q: Is the water safe to drink?
A:
Yes, of course. You'll be drinking treated water.
